Infant
Intervention isn’t just for delays that children have but it is for parents and
children to develop and learn skills properly. I always thought that infant
intervention was only for parents that did not know how to parent and they
needed help to know how to feed, and assist them in developing. Infant
intervention can be for every family- it always is good to get feedback and
advice from others because the data gathered wouldn’t be biased. Sometimes it
is hard to see our own child’s development because we don’t compare to other children.
Something that I learned from the guest speaker is how specific we need to be
when we ask questions about their child’s development. For example, the teacher
asked the mother about what the infants gross motor development- the “mother”
didn’t know how to answer that questions because she didn’t seem to be familiar
with those terms. A better question
would have been something like “has your child started to crawl”.
Before
the guest speaker came I was a little nervous about doing home visits because I
feel that I am unqualified to give advice for the mother. But I feel that as we
are researching and getting to know the material we will be able to feel
confident in giving advice.
