Week One Reflections ECSE 340

  • The only thing that I know about home visits is that their purpose is to get out in the community and help parents with infants and children. Professionals are trained to recognize developmentally inappropriate practices and routines- and can aide and train parents to raise the child to be physically, emotionally, mentally, and socially safe and develop correctly. I think home visits are a great way for parents to seek advice especially if they are a new parent or nervous about raising children. Home visits also allow professionals to see where the child is at developmentally in comparison to the average child. Sometimes it is hard for parents to recognize problems and slow development when they are not aware of what is "normal" or healthy. I look forward to doing home visits and learning about the best resources and ways to do things for my future family.
  • I love working with infants but I am concerned about being able to recognize problem areas or areas of improvement because all infants grow and develop at different rates and sometimes in different sequences.
